All categories are for works or activities for a given year by a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.
The following five categories are for professional works in English for Science Fiction or Fantasy.
| BEST NOVEL – ENGLISH | Works over 40,000 words |
| BEST SHORT FICTION – ENGLISH | Works less than 40,000 words |
| BEST GRAPHIC NOVEL – ENGLISH | Graphic novel, single issue of a serial or an on-line comic |
| BEST POEM/SONG – ENGLISH | Poem or Song that was published or performed |
| BEST RELATED WORK – ENGLISH | Work not encompassed by the previous four categories such as magazine, literary criticism, book review, CD, critical editions, anthology, or a single-author collection released as a book |
The following category is for works done by either a professional or amateur artist. Both French and English artists are eligible.
| BEST ARTIST | Artwork or body of artwork done by either a professional or amateur artist. |
The following categories are for non-professional or fan work. Nominees are eligible for unpaid works. Both French and English fans may be nominated.
| BEST FAN PUBLICATION | Fanzine or fan newsletter, blog or publication either in print or by electronic means, whose content significantly relates to science fiction and fantasy, published by a Canadian at least once during the year. |
| BEST FAN ORGANIZATIONAL | Contributions to Canadian Science Fiction or Fantasy clubs, conventions or other organized activities. |
| BEST FAN FILK | Activities by a Canadian filker in areas such as album, song-writing, performance or sound engineering. Filk is fan music based on science fiction or fantasy |
| BEST FAN OTHER | Activity in the area of Science Fiction or Fantasy not encompassed by the previous three categories in areas such as: presentations, performances, APAS or fan-writing. |
